Can UFC learn from Strikeforce?
Posted on June 19, 2011 at 06:15 PM.
I believe UFC can learn a lot from Strikeforce. If you disagree with my next statement, feel free to comment, because I am open to discussion, but it terms of PURE FIGHTING, and presentation, i.e. length between fights and total action over the course of a show, I can't remember a UFC event that has been better than the last 5 or 6 Strikeforce events. I love Dana White, and 1% of Zuffa's marketing efforts destroys Strikeforce's entire life cycle in terms of promoting events. If you aren't an MMA fan, you would never know that Strikeforce existed, but you can't intentionally not hear about a UFC event. I love that about UFC. They talk you into the building, into your $44.95. They get me genuinely excited. Strikeforce almost dares you not to watch. However, if they can;t persuade you strongly enough not to tune in, I think you would be pleasantly surprised. They put awesome fights together, time in, time out. Watching a free UFC event in real time is nearly impossible. It's like this: Interview montage, terrible intro song, Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan on camera, commercial. Interview montage, commercial. Round, commercial, repeat, show decision, interview in Octagon, commercial, repeat. Four 15 minute fights in two hours. 60 mins (usually way less) of action, and the rest is commercials or interview montages. UFC, I love you, but watch Strikeforce and freshen this up a bit. I pay you about 400 dollars a year, my opinion matters.
